A group of liberal lunatics at Oxford University have declared that newborn babies are "morally irrelevant", are not "actual persons", and do not have "a moral right to life". They assert that killing these babies is no different that aborting them before birth. Read the article HERE.

Will the REAL Doctor Please Stand Up?

Sweet Wifey and I went to the movies last night. Before the show begins, the theater has advertisements on the screen. One particular ad was talking about a medical clinic in Jackson, Tn. and mentioned a DOCTOR So-and So. On the first pass I thought I saw something a little funny. On the second pass I read the fine print and determined that DOCTOR So-and-So was not an MD doctor but rather held a degree called “Doctor of nursing practice”. Of course nowhere in the audio accompanying the ad was there a mention that Dr. So-and-So was not an MD.

Now I have no particular problem with nurse practitioners. In fact I preceptor a nurse practitioner (holds a masters degree) who is very well qualified and is smarter than a bunch of MD doctors I know.

What does bug me is when people slap the term DOCTOR in front of their name, implying that they are medical doctors but instead hold some other kind of doctorate.

Dr. Anna Marie

There is a “doctor” on TV called DOCTOR Anna Marie who advertises herself as a health specialist. I think she is somehow connected with the Weather Channel. I have seen a few of her spots from time to time and never do I remember a disclaimer from her telling the audience that she WAS NOT a medical doctor. No, she is a podiatrist. Now I don’t have anything against podiatrists. They have to go to school and have to perfect surgical skills to practice their profession. But if you’re going to advertise yourself as a doctor, you should specify what type of doctor you happen to be. I have nothing against Anna Marie DPM, but why do I have to do a search to discover her actual credentials? We had a staff podiatrist at a hospital where I used to practice. She could not admit patients on her own. One of us MD types had to do the admitting and then she could do her podiatric procedures. You get the idea. Rules may be different in other states.

I remember an ad on TV for some sort of gadget purported to reduce the size of your waistline. The product was endorsed by a Dr. Feelgood. If you read the fine print you discovered that Dr. Feelgood was a chiropractor, not a medical doctor, but if you had your eyes closed and not carefully reading the screen, you’d never know the difference.

Another infomercial a while back advertised some kind of natural remedy that was supposed to treat erectile dysfunction. Two different “doctors” attested about the effectiveness of THEIR product. Turns out that both of these doctors turned out to have PhD’s in psychology, but you’d never realize that unless you carefully looked at the commercial. Again I have nothing against PhD’s. My sister has a PhD in microbiology and is one of the smartest people I know.

By the way folks, those NATURAL remedies for erectile dysfunction are worthless. They are based on hocus pocus and not scientific fact. Save your money.

Every time I hear something about a DOCTOR Whats-his-name fly by on TV, my radar perks up. Yours should too.

Davy Jones is Dead

Davy Jones of the rock-n-roll band, The Monkees is dead at age 66. Oh dear, another one bites the dust. Well if you're close to my age, you'll remember the Monkees. They sold millions of records and you still hear them today.

The Monkees have an interesting past. Did you know that in the beginning they were not allowed to play their instruments on their own recordings? Apparently none of them except for Peter Tork were very good musicians. Also, I was interested to learn that Davy Jones was actually a better drummer than Micky Dolenz, the actual drummer for the band. It was thought that Jones would portray a better image as singer and front man for the group.

All that aside, boys and girls, I grew up with their songs and know many of the lyrics by heart. In those days we were young, full of piss and vinegar, and thought we'd never get old or die. Alas, time is relentless. What a sad day.

Act of Valor

Last night sweet Wifey and I went to see Act of Valor. This is a movie inspired by true events of the United States Navy SEALs. The actors are real SEALs and the stunts and action are performed by SEALs.

I won't spoil it by talking about the plots, but if you love America and the military; if you like ships, submarines, airplanes, helicopters, and all kinds of neat weapons; and if you hate terrorist thugs then this is a movie you won't want to miss.

This movie speaks to the threats our country faces and it attests to the dedication and heroism of our special forces units. At the end of the movie we all sat silently as the credit roll gave the names of all the SEALs that had made the ultimate sacrifice since 9-11.

Sweet Wifey liked it too. Go see it.

I was bickering with some of the looney Facebook liberals tonight. I told them I was voting for Rick Santorum. Of course they were outraged.

The crazy one that claims to be a Florida school teacher declared that "Christian" stands for anti-intellectual.

Hmmm, well I am a Christian and I consider myself an intellectual. I hold a doctorate degree; I have made good life decisions; and I consider myself successful. Even better, I have not relied on some gubment program to attain my position. I guess in the eyes of this woman, I am the exception rather than the rule. In her eyes, only blithering idiots can be Christians.

She's teaching our children, folks.

Obama is Worried About the Black Vote???? Really?????

Here's a hot one. Obama is courting the BLACK vote! Yessireebob he has played the race card and called on black churches to support his campaign.

Now I really have to wonder about this. Up until now he has pretty much ignored black folks. I mean 9 out of 10 blacks are going to vote Dimocrat anyway, or are they? I wonder if there is some internal polling going on indicating his support among blacks is slipping? Or perhaps he is such a dud as a President that they have just become disinterested and are planning on staying home.

Whatever the story the writer of the article imagines the outrage if a candidate like Ron Paul started campaigning for the white vote. Can you imagine the outrage?

I'm thinking I should start a movement called, "Crackers for Santorum."

Joe Biden Elects Himself President in 2013

The summer of 2012 was one of turmoil. The Republican primary remained hotly contested up until the convention. Mitt Romney eventually prevailed and named governor Chris Christie from New Jersey as his running mate.

On May 5, 2012, Israel conducted surgical strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The immediate results of these strikes were unclear but as the United States stood idly by, the Arab outrage against Israel and the west increased exponentially and by June, gasoline prices in the US averaged 8 dollars per gallon. Whatever so called economic recovery the mainstream media had tried to invent was shattered. In spite of attempts to cover the facts, the unemployment rate charged up to around 11 percent and the stock market took a tumble below 8000 by the beginning of July.

In September and October the Romney campaign hammered Obama relentlessly over his desertion of our Israeli ally, his failure to build the Keystone pipeline, his failure to lift the moratorium on gulf drilling, and the continuing intrusion of the federal government by Obamacare. In spite of all this the polls showed the race between Obama and Romney to be a dead heat up until the very last minute.

On Tuesday November 6, 2012, the presidential election resulted in an electoral tie with both Romney and the President receiving 269 electoral votes. Obama actually won the popular vote by a scant 52,000 votes. The Republicans easily held control of the House of Representatives and in fact gained 4 seats. The Senate was shifted with 50 seats held by Republicans, 48 seats held by Democrats, and 2 seats held by independents. The two independents had historically caucused with the Democrats.

Most ignorant Democrat voters and many ignorant Republican voters were unaware that in the event of an electoral tie, the incoming House of Representatives would, according to the 12th amendment of the Constitution, choose the President while the Senate would select the Vice President.

The mainstream media went immediately to work informing the masses that Mitt Romney would no doubt be the 45th President of the United States. A tremendous outcry went up and rioting occurred in the streets of major cities. Accusations of racism and theft of the election were alive and well in the mainstream news. Al Sharpton and the "reverend" Jesse Jackson were happy as larks as they stirred the racial flames. Hundreds died as local police and fire departments were overwhelmed by angry, racially charged mobs. The National Guard was heavily deployed in many places around the country. In spite of this violence continued.

Gasoline remained at around 8 dollars a gallon and in December of 2012, Egypt and Syria launched all out attacks against Israel. The United States finally had to act and supported Israel in a shooting war against its Arab neighbors mainly with airstrikes from carrier based aircraft from the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

In the meantime, the stock market began to make a slow recovery and the unemployment rate began to drop in hopes that a new Romney presidency would create a more business friendly environment. This good news, however, was largely ignored as much of America burned and war raged in the middle east.

In January the new congress convened with the House of Representatives, as expected, choosing Mitt Romney as President. The Senate however was hopelessly deadlocked at 50/50, Biden vs. Christie. Biden, still the sitting Vice President, cast the deciding vote in favor of himself. The improbable result had the Republican Romney in the top position with Biden remaining in second place. Biden told the news media that he would do everything possible during his next term to vigorously continue the efforts and policies of Barack Obama.

On January 25, 2013, five days after his inauguration, Romney was assassinated by a bomb while he was giving a speech in New York, City. 75 people were killed in the attack allegedly conducted by Al'Qaeda operatives in relatiation for our actions in the middle east.

On the same day, Joe Biden was sworn in as 46th President of the United States.

I was eating lunch on the 2 of February with my 7-year-old granddaughter and I asked her, "What day is tomorrow?" She said "It's President's Day!" She is a smart kid. So, I asked "What does President's Day mean?" I was waiting for something about Washington or Lincoln etc. She replied, "President's Day is when President Obama steps out of the White House, and if he sees his shadow we have one more year of unemployment." You know, it hurts when hot coffee spurts out your nose...

It is fun to get into arguments with liberals over gasoline prices. The looney environmentalist wackos would have us believe a bunch of nonsensical things. The first of which that drilling for oil will not reduce oil prices, stating that it will be years before we will see any of that oil.

Even if that were true there is still no reason NOT to drill, if not for now, for the future. The truth is that the price of oil is driven by SPECULATION of the supply rather than the actual supply at any given time. This is the case with any commodity. If the feeling is that the crop of oranges in Florida and California is going to be affected by bad weather or some kind of plague, prices will go up on the speculation that the supply will be limited. It is the same with oil, perhaps even on a greater scale.

Building the Keystone pipeline NOW, drilling in ANWR, and lifting the moratorium on gulf drilling would have an immediate effect. Building more refineries would be a good start as well. I read on Drudge the other day that Saudi Arabia is reducing the supply of oil in the face of our skyrocketing gasoline prices. You can bet if suddenly the Arabs believed that the US was deadly serious about producing its own oil and becoming independent of OPEC, the spigots would be mysteriously opened. Supply would increase and prices would fall. Due to speculation of future increased supply, prices would also be pushed downward and it would happen rather quickly.

Environmentalist wackos would also have us believe that wind and solar must be factored into the future energy equation. Anyone with half a brain can see that wind and solar do not work and will not meet our energy needs. Millions, perhaps billions of dollars have already been wasted on solar projects that simply do not work.....remember Solyndra? No telling how much money has been wasted on electric cars that simply do not work and people simply don't want. The irony is that many studies have now appeared that indicate electric cars have a higher carbon footprint than conventional automobiles. Yes indeedy, when you plug in your little bundle of nonsense and you're feeling so good about yourself, you are consuming electricity most likely generated by...........wait for it......

Fossil fuels! And it is most likely from one of those oh so nasty coal fired plants. Unless your electric car gets its charge from hydro power or nuclear, you're doing some mighty unclean charging.

The wackos also have hissy fits over the environmental issues of drilling. The Keystone pipeline has been studied and studied and studied. The area in Nebraska in question already has 25000 miles of pipeline. Why can't the wackos just be truthful? They just don't want anybody to have oil. No matter what the truth or the facts, they will still come up with yet another excuse not to drill. They want us to have more big gubment to force us to buy electric cars and ride electric trains and give up our pickup trucks and SUV's. Yes indeed, they need to employ gubment to save the planet from the HOAX of manmade global warming.

One day the technology may exist that allows things like solar and wind power to meet our energy needs. There will probably appear new technologies that might seem like science fiction to us now. But for the foreseeable future, oil is where it's at and we're stupid not to exploit our oil resources to the max.

I told a goofy liberal the other day that when we could fly a 767 across the ocean on cool breezes and sunbeams that I would believe his environmentalist BS.

Hussein Obama is a loon. He is just not convinced that drilling alone is the answer.

This goes beyond the question of a mere day off.As I’ve often written,usually vis a vis the people who identify themselves as ‘Palestinians’, you can tell a great deal about a people by whom and what they honor and hold up as heroic.

Not really knowing what an Obama fan is, but wanting to be liked by the teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for Little Johnny. The teacher asked Little Johnny why he has decided to be different..again.

Little Johnny said, "Because I'm not an Obama fan."

The teacher asked, "Why aren't you a fan of Obama?" Johnny said, "Because I'm a Republican."

Republicans Want to Ban Good Dental Health

Democratic Congressman, George Gummers, has proposed a new addition to Obamacare which will mandate free toothpaste and brushes to everyone under the new health care law. Gummers says the time has come to make toothbrushes and toothpaste accessible to the masses. Women and minorities of course have been the hardest hit, Gummers declared.

There was immediate opposition from the Republican side of the House, with GOP leaders simply stating we did not have the money to provide free dental care products. This was soon followed with outrage from the New York Times, CNN, The Politico, and The Atlanta Urinal and Constipation, who chastised Republican leaders for wanting to ban good dental health.

President Obama welcomed this news and said he would sign any bill that came to his desk which cost a lot of money and gave free stuff away to prospective Democrat voters. Senator John McCain and other GOP leaders warned against criticizing the president's position stating that such a tone would be perceived as racist and insensitive by independent voters.

I'm Doomed

According to this study I'm doomed. It says that people who walk slowly have an increased risk of dementia. It also says that people with a weak grip have a greater risk of stroke......whew I'm OK there. My grip is good.

I have never walked fast, mainly because I have never been in that big a hurry to get anywhere. It's the same when I drive. Just this morning I was driving the speed limit and people were passing me like I was standing still. Boy they surely must love their jobs, cause they were in a big hurry to get there.

Hmmmm, well I guess it's time to get back on the treadmill if I don't want to lose my mind.

A Hoke County preschooler was fed chicken nuggets for lunch because a state worker felt that her homemade lunch did not have enough nutritional value, according to a report by the Carolina Journal.

The West Hoke Elementary School student was in her More at Four classroom when a state agent who was inspecting lunch boxes decided that her packed lunch — which consisted of a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, apple juice and potato chips — “did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines,” the Journal reports.

Now of course I have to ask. Who has the authority to go pilfering through my child's lunch? I thought a search warrant was required for such things.

Who has the authority to decide whether my child's lunch is nutritious or not? What the hell is wrong with a turkey and cheese sammich?

Who's damned business is it to decide what my child shall or shall not eat? Tell me.

I remember when I was in grade school I brought lunches to school, mainly because the stuff in the cafeteria was so horrible. So far I have made it to nearly 60 years of age with no help from Michele Obama and the food Nazis.

It is a good thing I do not have a child at Hoke County preschool. You'd probably be reading about my arrest on Drudge.

A Looney Facebook Liberal's View of Republican Voters

This is pathetic, but I intercepted this from one of the looney Facebook liberals. She is explaining why people in the south vote for Republicans. Just read and sadly shake your heads:

I can only speak for the deep South - They vote against their best interests because they believe - DEEPLY BELIEVE - that gay marriage is an abomination that will destroy the family, that abortion is murder, not matter what, that any health care that includes birth control (and many other "women's" health issues, for that matter) is something that should come out of their pockets, that a woman's place is only in the home and she needs to get her behind back in the kitchen, where it belongs, that publicly-lead prayer belongs back in our schools, and that the only good education is a private, religiously-based one that teaches evolution as science. I mean none of this sarcastically. They really do believe this. Since the Republican party is currently telling them this is okay and this is what they are going to bring back (A return to an idealized version of the 1950s), they vote for them. They DO NOT LOOK at the big business agenda and the payola taken from lobbyists to go against the best interests of this country.

This is pretty pathetic and very revealing. She begins by deciding what is in "our best interest" like she should know better than we. The Bible, not I, declares that homosexuality is an abomination. Frankly I could care less which way one swings. On the other hand I won't have to explain my lifestyle choices before God.

Yes abortion is murder. What else would you call the taking of an innocent life?

Uh, what is wrong with paying for healthcare out of your pocket, women's health issues or otherwise? Who else should pay for it and why?

There are plenty of successful women who have been both mothers and explored other careers. Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann immediately come to mind.

I have no problem with prayer in schools or public places. If a Jew, a Muslim, or a Buddhist wants to utter a prayer, I have no problem with it. I am not offended by it nor am I threatened by it. If I don't want to hear it I can get up and leave.

I wouldn't doubt that private, religiously based education is probably the best way to go. I have paid for my grandson's education in this setting and I don't think we could have done any better. Some of the skulls full of mush turned out this day and time by the gubment schools are a disgrace. The NEA of course is part of the problem.

Yes, I'm voting against the socialist Dimocrat party simply because those evil Republicans tell us it is OK. It couldn't have anything to do with failed Dimocrat programs, one after another, exploding debt, diminution of our military, and erosion of our personal liberty and God given rights......no it couldn't possibly be because of any of that.

By the way, I found out this woman is a teacher......God help us.

The Grouch Educates Facebook Friends on Payroll Tax Cuts and High Gasoline Prices

When I get on a roll, I get on a roll. I want to share a post that I had on Facebook with a few Facebook friends. Here is my initial post:

Who on Facebook knows the difference in payroll tax and income tax? Don't just hit LIKE. If you do, I'll assume you're a dumbass and don't know the difference. A simple yes or no comment will suffice.

And now, ladies and gentleman, my eloquent reply to all of this:

Well, thanks for all the comments. Yes, Bill, it all does come from INCOME. It comes from income earned by all of us and confiscated by the gubment to fund all its wasteful gubment programs.

Shonda, if you are self employed like me, you still pay the tax. Instead of calling it payroll tax, they call it SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX. That used to and still does really piss me off. It seems like the gubment is punishing me for being self employed.

Amy, half of the payroll tax is withheld from the check of the employee (FICA), the other half must be matched by the employer.

Tonya, you are right. The payroll tax is a flat tax so to speak. The normal rate is 6.2 percent and when matched by the employer ends up being 12.4 percent. The other part is the Mediscare tax. I say Mediscare because for decades now Dimocrats have tried to frighten seniors by saying the Republicans are trying to take away their Social Security and Medicare. The Mediscare tax rate is 1.45 percent withheld from employees. When matched by the employer the overall rate is 2.9 percent. The Social Security tax has a cap. For 2012 it is $110100. It goes up every year. The payroll tax is a flat tax in that EVERYONE regardless of overall income pays the same tax rate.

In 2011, the gubment enacted the temporary payroll tax cut reducing the Social Security tax from 6.2 to 4.2 percent. This was supposed to be a "temporary stimulus" for the floundering economy. The problem with this "solution" is that Social Security is solely funded by the Social Security tax. By reducing the rate from 6.2 to 4.2 percent, the Obama administration has effectively reduced funding to Social Security by almost one third. Last December there was a big argument in congress about extending the payroll tax cut. The same Dimocrats that accused the Republicans of trying to do away with Social Security and Mediscare are now in favor of a tax cut that reduces Social Security receipts by 1/3.

The Dimocrats rammed this extension through to February 2012 by insinuating that Republicans were against tax cuts and wanted to raise taxes. Now they want to extend the payroll tax cut to the end of the year. Of course in their rhetoric they never mention the 1/3 reduction in Social Security fund receipts.

Gasoline prices are going up. Hussein Obama says that this is good news and is a sign the economy is recovering. He also says extending the payroll tax cut is a good idea and the increase in disposable income will offset the rise in gas prices. At the same time, he refuses to allow the Keystone pipeline to be built and refuses to lift the moratorium on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Both of these measures would have the immediate effect of creating jobs and reducing oil prices. Obama would rather just keep the payroll tax cut and otherwise do nothing. Anyone with half a brain can easily deduce that the president's approach won't do a damned bit of good toward strengthening the economy.

So when your gasoline prices hit $5.00 per gallon, just think how happy your president is about all of this and just think how generous he has been gutting Social Security so you can have some extra spending money for gasoline.

There are a bunch of loons here on Facebook that really believe this guy is a GREAT president. They run around bashing the evil Republicans for trying to do away with their precious Social Security and Mediscare. They also tout him as being FOR THE WORKING MAN as he sits on his ass and happily watches gasoline go to 5 dollars per gallon. Now that you know the whole story about payroll taxes and payroll tax cuts, perhaps the next time you hear one of these loons supporting Barack Hussein Obama, you might take a moment or two to straighten them out. Truth and facts can be a real bitch when you're trying to defend a bald faced lie!

Good News! 5 Dollar Gas is on the Way!

I heard Dear Leader talking on TV today. He says gas prices are going up. He says this is GOOD NEWS! He says this is a sign the economy is recovering. He also says this is another reason to extend the payroll tax cut (translated - defund Social Security).

In addition to continuing the payroll tax cut why don't we:

1. Build the Keystone Pipeline NOW?

2. Repeal the moratorium on offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico?

Both of these steps would have the immediate effect of creating jobs and lowering oil prices. Oh, but if gas prices dropped I guess that would be bad news?

Sometimes my head really hurts listening to this guy.

Musicians Play FREE!

Got a call today from a place where the Morbid Strangers had booked a show in March. The dude said he was just going to have to cancel us because he couldn't swing the amount of money he had originally agreed to pay us. I said, easy come, easy go. I think he was hoping I'd agree to NEGOTIATE with him but I just thanked him and hung up.

The deal with the Morbid Strangers is that we play to have a good time. Fortunately we all have REAL JOBS. I would hate to think I had to rely on playing music to make a living. It would be nearly impossible.

Many times people have approached me wanting us to play. They turn three shades of green however when I tell them the amount we charge. The amount is surely not unreasonable. In fact it is downright cheap. People do not seem to realize that although playing music is fun, it is also hard work. Since we play for cheap, we can't afford "roadies" to set up out gear. Lugging 100 pound speaker cabinets around is not fun. Also, the gear we have is not cheap. We all play either Fender or Gibson guitars, not cheap. Our amps are a mixture of Laney, Marshall, Gallien-Krueger, Peavey, and SWR, not cheap. It takes gas and oil and vehicle maintenance to transport all that gear, not cheap. And yes, we have to practice. This takes time and money also.

Besides that it for me is a matter of pride and self respect. If we're willing to play for free or a few peanuts here and there it says something about the band. If we're not willing to charge a reasonable amount, well, then I guess we must not think very much of our own band. You know the old saying, "You get what you pay for."

We've turned down a variety of "benefits" because the people are appalled that we won't do it for free. Seems that the only people that do not benefit at a benefit are those in the band. I've been offered all the beer I can drink to come play. What an insult. I don't even drink beer. Yes, indeed, everyone seems to have a cause, this cause, that cause, and the other cause. Their cause is most important. Won't you guys come and DONATE your time and money and play for FREE? Forget it.

I have a couple of Facebook friends who actually play music in an attempt to support themselves. I see them griping from time to time about this particular issue. Ladies and gentlemen, I feel your pain.

Happy Valentine's Day to Me

Every day with my sweet Wifey is a good day. Valentine's Day is here and she got me an oh so nice present, Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. This is a high powered digital art and photo manipulation program. For many years I have been using the now defunct, Micrografx Picture Publisher. Problem is that Picture Publisher was never made to run on a MacBook Pro, only my old PC. My other choice would be to install Windows 7 on the Mac and use a program like Parallels or VMware to make the PC program work. Geez, Microsoft wants 200 bucks for Windows 7 and they won't sell multiple licenses for it anymore. I think Parallels is about 70 bucks, so poot on that idea. Windows blows anyway compared to Lion OS.

I got Wifey a new printer for her Mac and a small flat screen TV to hang in front of her treadmill (my treadmill). Not very romantic you say? Well, she was absolutely delighted.

Whitney Houston

Well, Whitney Houston is dead. Yes, she joins a long line of artists that we all feel went on to the great beyond well before their time, along with Elvis, Hendrix, Joplin, Holly, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and many others. She had a voice like no other and there is no doubt her passing is a great loss for the music world and the people that loved her.

It really irritates me when I listen to the SPECULATION on the news channels about her death, and of course I already hear blame for her EVIL DOCTORS that must have prescribed the fatal overdose of medicine for her.

Of course at this point none of the facts have been revealed. You know, she was 48 years old. People this age do indeed die of natural causes such as heart attacks, strokes, and pulmonary emboli. It happens and if this turns out to be the case, won't there be a bunch of egg on the face of the news media?

No doubt she had many problems with drugs and alcohol but we certainly don't know if this was the reason for her death. I'm willing to just leave things alone and wait for the facts and hope she is at peace in a better place.

Spoiled by Key West

It's a fact. Wifey and I are spoiled by Key West. The restaurants there were grand. The food was great, the helpings were enormous, and the prices were not bad at all. So what do we do now when we get home? Where do we find some really good and special food?

We went to a new place in Jackson Friday night called the Flatiron Grill. I'll have to say I was impressed. I had shrimp and filet Mignon and it was delicious. The place was a little pricey, but the service was good and much to my delight, there were no screaming kids in the place. That is one of the good things about an upscale place. The thoughtless masses won't be wagging their little dip sh*ts in the place to torture people. There were no signs saying, "Kids eat free." or "Kids, half price." YEA! Anytime I see one of those signs I think twice about even going in the place.

Anyway, sweet Wifey and I will be visiting the Flatiron Grill again for some peace and quiet and some very good food. We'll be thinking often of Key West.

FREE = ACCESSIBLE ??? How Does That Work?

Of course the big hoopla news of the week is Hussein Obama's assault on the first amendment by forcing Catholic charities etc. to provide contraception for it's employees. Now dear leader has "modified" his approach and now instead is going to mandate that the insurance companies for these organizations provide FREE coverage of contraception for the employees.

Of course nothing really changes. The Catholic charities will still end up paying the premiums for the coverage and of course nothing is going to be FREE. The insurance companies will simply pass along the cost of the FREE contraceptives in the form of higher premiums for you and me.

Hussein argues that this must be done to make contraception ACCESSIBLE for everyone. Since when was it NOT accessible? I remember years ago before I had my tubes tied that sweet Wifey used to take birth control pills. They were easily accessible. She took a prescription to the drug store and PAID FOR THE PILLS and that was that. I don't remember an insurance company ever being involved. What a novel idea, paying for your own contraception! Even when I was in school, we didn't have a lot of money, but nevertheless we both WORKED and contraception was easily accessible. If push came to shove you could buy some rubbers from a machine in the service station.

So he mandates you buy health insurance. He mandates the insurance companies provide FREE contraception. What kind of knucklehead liberal policies will he mandate next? Is he going to mandate you buy an electric car? Is he going to mandate you stop using incandescent light bulbs? Oh wait, that is already happening! Is he going to mandate you can't throw a football on the beach? Oh wait, that is already happening too......where will it all end?

So many of our freedoms are being taken away, bit by bit. And like the frog in the pot, we won't realize that we are being boiled alive until it's too late.

Return of the Woolly Mammoth???

Here's an interesting story. Apparently there has been a sighting of what is thought to be a woolly mammoth (elephant) in Siberia. This creature supposedly became extinct 4000 years ago. Here's the LINK and there is a blurry video included. Whatever is in the video has a trunk and certainly appears to be a reasonable facsimile of an elephant. Is it a woolly mammoth? Well that is a little hard to tell from the video.

The article suggests that Siberia is so large, uninhabited, and unexplored, that other such findings may occur from time to time. Who knows what other "prehistoric" creatures may exist in our oceans as well?

If someone finds a T. rex in the Amazon jungle, I'll really get excited.

Perhaps God is Still on America's Side

Who would have thought Rick Santorum would have made a clean sweep of things yesterday and won the primaries in Colorado, Minnesota, and Missouri? Suddenly he is in second place in the delegate count. I am sure the Republican establishment is stroking out. They just can't stomach the idea of nominating a real conservative candidate.

The GROUCH is delighted and for the first time in several weeks I am thinking that perhaps God is interested in the salvation of America. We're sure enough going to go down to the abyss with Obama, Romney, or Gingrich. Thank God for Santorum's victory yesterday. There is still hope and still time.

Now Rick will be unmercifully attacked by the Romney and Gingrich campaigns, the left, the beltway Republicans, and the pundits on Fox News. Hopefully these victories will give him a boost and at least make it impossible for him to be ignored by the media as things have been up until now.

OK, it's time to ante up. I sent Rick a contribution. A waste of my money you say? Well, hell, it's my money. If I can't contribute to the cause of freedom, then what's the use? I hope the rest of you will dump the idea of Romney or Gingrich and get on the freedom train.

February Doldrums

Well, football is over until next August. It's still winter time. The days are short, but getting longer. The weather is cold, but not as cold as you would expect thanks to manmade global warming and those evil conservative capitalists, but it's still too cold to do much of anything outside. Basketball really sucks.

Yes, it's February, my least favorite month. It's time to start working on income tax, BLAH! Every year we have a presidential election, we also have a leap year. Have you ever noticed that? And ugly February is one day longer. I always thought they should have given the extra day to April, a month that actually deserved to be a day longer, but it was not up to me.

And this election year is particularly depressing, listening to Obama, Romney, and Gingrich bicker back and forth. It's hard to tell much difference between them.

February, 2012 was tempered a bit by our trip to Key West at the end of January. 80 degree temps, sunshine, good food, and a hot woman will always make you feel much better. On the other hand, I just saw on my weather page where the high temp Saredee is only going to be 36 degrees......ugh.

Oh well, I'm sucking it up and anxiously awaiting the arrival of March and the Vernal Equinox, long days, warm nights, croaking frogs, good smells, and my hot woman by my side! Yeah, Baby!

Returning from Florida the other day, we stopped at a fast food place for a bite. They had fountain soft drinks. There were like 10 different selections including Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Lemonade, some kind of fruit juice, and a couple of others. The ONLY DIET DRINK was Diet Pepsi. There were no other diet choices.

Now Diet Pepsi is kinda like the Mitt Romney of diet drinks. Not at all my favorite. Disabled people like me who have the dreaded diabetic condition are at a distinct disadvantage. In fact I find it downright discriminatory that we don't have more choices. I was so stressed out by all of this that I betcha my blood sugar went up 50 points!

I think it's time to file a lawsuit! After all, they have gubment mandated parking places and wheelchair ramps. Why should they not have gubment mandated diet sodas?

I know y'all are laughing but lawsuits have been filed over a lot less.

Last Man Standing

I have not blogged about presidential candidates in a while, mainly because it has become so distasteful to even think about it. The media has decided that the race is now a slug-fest between Romney and Gingrich. The more I listen to either one of those guys, the more nauseated I become. Herman Cain is gone. Rick Perry has dropped out. Michele Bachmann has retreated to the House. Ron Paul is crazy.

The last man standing for me is Rick Santorum. He is the only one left that really is a conservative, and I heard the other day that at long last he called man made global warming a HOAX! Yea! It's about time. Hard to know if Santorum will still be around when the primary happens in Tennessee.

It is also hard to know what will happen for sure at the Republican convention, but If the GOP doesn't give me Rick Santorum or a conservative like him in the general election, it will be the first time that I have sat it out since 1972. I just CANNOT vote for the likes of Romney or Gingrich.

Explore Tampa and Key West with Mr. and Mrs. Grouch

Well I finally got all the pictures processed from our trip to Tampa and Key West and have uploaded them all to FLICKR. If you’d like to look at our adventures there then read on, if not, then go soak your head.

We arrived in Tampa on January 20 and spent the 20^th and the 21^st there visiting with Wifey’s brother, Dwayne and his wife Belinda as well as our niece, Stephanie and our great nephew, Forrest. It had been a long time since we had seen any of them and in fact we had NEVER seen Forrest. If you’d like to see pictures of our visit, click HERE.

Saturday night, January 21, we attended a party in celebration of Belinda’s parents' (Arbea and Gordon) 50^th wedding anniversary. In this day and time, 50 years of marriage is quite and accomplishment. The party was great and they had a fantastic band called the Nashville Express. Pictures of the party can be found HERE.

Sunday, January 22, was a travel day for us and we stopped for the night in Florida City. We ate supper (all you meddlesome Yankees call it dinner) at a place called The Mutineer Restaurant. If you’re in Florida City or passing through to the keys, I’d highly recommend stopping by. I enjoyed a huge sampler plate of shrimp, conch fritters, calamari , and fish. Yum yum!

We arrived in Key West on Monday, January 23 and checked in to our hotel. That evening we drove around just a bit and ended up eating at Camille’s Restaurant. I had the hogfish and Wifey had her first taste on the trip of Key Lime Pie. Definitely put Camille’s on your to do list. Monday pictures are HERE.

Tuesday, January 24, we took a tour to the old town and frequented the numerous shops and stores. We visited the Shipwreck Museum and also rode the Conch Tour Train. The Conch Train is a great way to get an overview of all the important sights in Key West. That night we ate at a wonderful place called Mangrove Mama’s Restaurant in Sugarloaf Key. They served me the best cocoanut shrimp I have ever eaten. Tuesday pictures are HERE.

Wednesday, January 25, was our trip to the Dry Tortugas National Park, aboard the ferry, Yankee Freedom 2. The Dry Tortugas are about 70 miles west of Key West. It is a place loaded with history and is a beautiful trip. Unfortunately, poor Wifey got deathly seasick on the way home. As soon as we got into the harbor and got still, she was fine. We didn’t do anything fancy that night because of her queasy stomach so we went to the Denny’s down the street. Wednesday pictures are HERE.

Thursday, January 26, included another visit to the old town, more shops, more stores, MelFisher’s Maritime Museum, the Truman White House, and the Hemingway House. What an interesting place is the Hemingway House, 6 toed cats and all. Thursday night we ate at Red Fish Blue Fish restaurant in the center of Mallory Square in the waterfront district. I chowed down on delicious fried Mahi Mahi while Wifey had her second taste of Key Lime Pie. Go HERE for Thursday pictures.

Friday, January 27, we visited Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. Fort Taylor is another place loaded with beauty and history. Friday night Wifey and I had the best New York strip steaks we had ever eaten at the Stoned Crab Restaurant in the IbisBay Resort. The only comparable steak for me was at a place called Chef Geoff’s in Washington DC. Go HERE for Friday pictures.

Also on Friday, Wifey visited Mel Fisher’s Treasures and bought herself a very nice silver and emerald necklace. The silver in this necklace is silver actually recovered from wrecks explored and salvaged by Mel Fisher. Of course it is a beautiful necklace for a beautiful girl.

Saturday, January 28, we visited the US Coast Guard Cutter Ingham. This is a ship, which served from 1936 to 1988 and in 2 wars. She is a ship rich in history and tradition. The Coast Guard rocks! We also visited the Key West Tropical Gardens. Saturday night we went back to Mangrove Mama’s for some more cocoanut shrimp. Mama also has live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. We listened to and artist called Chief Billy. Saturday pictures are HERE.

Well Sunday, January 29, we sadly left Key West bound for home. We stopped off in Lake City, FL for the night and arrived back home Monday night. This was a spectacular vacation. The weather was near 80 degrees every day with brilliant sunshine and cool breezes and we never had anything but delicious food, even at Denny’s. Of course the best thing was that I was with my sweet Wifey. This September we will have been married 40 years and God willing we’ll have our 50^th as well. We’re already planning our next trip. I’m looking forward to it.

RINO REMINDER

Senator Lamar Alexander is the traitorous senator from Tennessee who voted to confirm the racist judge, Sonya Sotomayor. Never again will I vote for Lamar Alexander. He is not up for re-election until 2014, but I intend to post this reminder each and every month until then. I hope he either resigns or they run a true conservative against him in the primary. I challenge my fellow bloggers to do the same if you have RINO's in your state that need to go. I may add my other senator, Bob Corker, to this reminder. I'm waiting for him to cross the aisle again and work with Dimocrats.

It is with sadness that I have added my congresswoman, Marsha Blackburn to the RINO Reminder list. She voted for the BOEHNER bill and has voted to raise the debt ceiling, thereby COMPROMISING and selling us out to the Dimocrats and the establishment Republicans. I have let congresswoman Blackburn know that I am looking forward to voting for a primary challenger against her in 2012. I hope there is one.

Evil Rich Doctors - GREEDY CAPITALISTS!

The hospital administrator sent me this article about the Physician Payment Sunshine Act. This has been around since 2009 so it is nothing new. In summary it is a federal requirement that those evil drug and medical device companies report payments to doctors for research and consultation or as the article insinuates "gifts".

I have a few questions:

Are drug companies not PRIVATE industries?

If they want to pay doctors for research and consultation, what business is it of the federal gubment's?

Indeed, if the company wants to give someone a "gift" what business is it of the federal gubment's?

If qualified physicians are doing work for drug companies are they not entitled to compensation? What business is this of the federal gubment's? As long as the doctors pay their income taxes, it should be none of their business!

This whole thing reminds me and demonstrates the attack on capitalism by both the left and the right. Mitt Romney has been vilified by the looney left as well as Republicans running against him. All Romney has ever done is engage in capitalism, I'm not aware he has violated any laws.

This Sunshine Act thing is especially juicy for the naysayers. They have an opportunity not only to vilify capitalism but the health care profession as well. Those evil, money grubbing, rich doctors! How dare they accept money from those evil, money grubbing, rich drug companies for doing legitimate work?

No, we should just go back to the days of leeches, bleeding patients, and poultices. We could cut our life expectancy in half. The Social Security and Medicare insolvency issues would be solved.

I have one last question:

If these doctors were consulting for some gubment agency or perhaps a solar energy company, do you reckon we would hear anything at all about it?

Thankful for a Safe Trip

Last Sunday night we had left Key West on the way home. It is a LONG drive from one end of Florida to the other. By the time we passed Ocala on I-75 it was dark and I was planning on making Lake City before calling it a night.

Near Gainesville traffic on the northbound side began to slow almost to a halt and up ahead we could see numerous flashing lights. It was obvious there was a big wreck but it appeared the mayhem was on the other (southbound) side. As we crept along, we could see the remains of trailer trucks scattered all over the place and the really spooky thing was that the southbound side of the freeway was closed all the way back to the north, well beyond the horizon. Indeed, what should normally be a sea of approaching headlights was completely dark.

When we finally got past Gainesville, we could see where the traffic was being detoured onto local highways and behind that, traffic was piled up for miles. It was only later after we got to a hotel in Lake City that we heard of the massive chain reaction pileup on the interstate. We heard that 10 people had lost their lives. For a brief minute I thought that this could have just as easily happened on the northbound side and we could have been involved. We also experienced some of the smoke and fog that allegedly cause the accident.

We had one of the greatest vacations ever and I am thankful we made it safe and sound. I am very sorry for those folks involved in that terrible crash.

Back from Margaritaville

We made it back from Key West, FL tonight. It was tough to leave Margaritaville (80 degrees and clear every day) but it is good to be home. The best thing was that the prettiest girl I ever saw was in Key West with me. I'll put up a few pictures in a little while if y'all care to look at them.

We had a GREAT time! I think Wifey had an even better time than I.

The Restaurant Critic

I'm usually pretty easy to please at a restaurant as long as the food is good and the server makes a decent attempt to wait on us. The worst experience I remember was at a Perkins restaurant in Memphis. Wifey and I went there ONCE. I got fish. It was raw. I sent it back. They sent it back burned. Wifey got pancakes. They were also raw. Back in the back, we noticed the kitchen workers shucking and jiving and moonwalking.

A few years later some of my ham radio friends and I visited a Perkins restaurant somewhere in Kentucky. The food sucked and the service sucked. So that did it for me. No more Perkins EVER!

Back in 2010 Wifey and I were shocked when the waitress at Red Robin completely forgot about us. I've already blogged about this. She was too busy shucking and jiving with her friends. We have been back to Red Robin and no further problems have occurred.

These are the exceptions. Most of the time things are OK. I want to discuss those little things that I frequently find at restaurants that are annoying:

ARTIFICIAL SWEETENER

There are 3 basic types of sweetener: Sweet-N-Low, NutraSweet, and Splenda. For those of us that don't use sugar, THERE ARE DIFFERENCES. Why are some restaurants so cheap that they only put Sweet-N-Low on the table and won't give you any other choices? Wifey hates Sweet-N-Low.

SILVERWARE

Believe it or not I have been in places where you had to ASK for silverware. There used to be a place locally (they are no longer there) that NEVER put silverware on the table, NEVER, we always had to ask for it. At a Shoney's in Nashville once, my friends and I went to the breakfast bar, but they never would bring us utensils and no amount of hell raising and hand waving did any good. I finally went up front and reached behind the counter and got some silverware myself. I was immediately chastised by one of the help. I quickly threw it right back at her and let her know that if she and her friends had not been shucking and jiving, I would not have had to take matters into my own hands. I have visited other places that would not bring silverware as well. To me, this seems like one of the basics.

KETCHUP

What is it with Denny's and ketchup? Seems like everytime I go in a Denny's, all the ketchup bottles on the table are empty. Once I tried stealing a couple from other tables. They were empty too. It also seems like the server disappears when you have a big plate of fries and no ketchup.

SALAD DRESSING

I am one of those folks that likes a little salad with my dressing. Why do some places bring a miniscule portion of dressing? You need a microscope to find it. And then they look at you with disdain if you ask for more. Also, what is it about Thousand Island Dressing? A lot of places don't have it. Wifey and I took a trip up through Ohio and Michigan a while back and no restaurant had Thousand Island. It really can't be that difficult to find, can it?

NAPKINS

Why can't restaurants put a stack of napkins on the table? Why do they want you to use just the one included with your silverware (if you're lucky enough to get silverware)? If they bring you something really messy, it's guaranteed you'll have it on you from head to toe before it's over. I have been in a few places that will put a roll of paper towels on the table.....GREAT IDEA!

COFFEE CUPS

Who ever invented Munchkin sized coffee cups should have their ass kicked into the middle of next week. I believe coffee should be served in Paul Bunyan sized mugs. This means fewer visits from the server as well.

LIGHTING

I believe in a romantic atmosphere but when the lights are so dim, you can't read the menu, it can be a problem.

SCREAMING KIDS

Don't put me close to them. I have blogged about this as well. The screeching and screaming is not conducive to good digestion.

Well that's enough for now. I bet the rest of you can think of some of those little things that annoy you in restaurants as well.

Super Bowl 2012

Well it's the Giants and the Patriots in the Super Bowl. I was 2 for 2 in my picks of the championship games. I was a bit surprised the Ravens played it so close with the Patriots only to lose in the last seconds with a missed field goal. I figured Brady would get his team ahead by a couple of touchdowns and it would stay that way until the end.

I called it exactly right in the NFC game, a 3 point victory for the Giants possibly in overtime and that is EXACTLY what happened. How sweet it is.

I'm picking the Giants in the Super Bowl. The Patriots were only able to beat the Ravens anemic offense by 3 points. Manning and the Giants are much better on offense than the Ravens and their defense is good enough to keep Brady from running up the score. I'm going to say it will be the Giants by a touchdown.

Unintended Consequences

Wifey was having problems trying to turn off this light during a recent stay we had in a hotel room.

She fiddled and fiddled and finally lifted the shade off the bulb only to find this:

Ahh yes, a glorious compact fluorescent bulb. The only problem was this:

The original shade would not fit on the CFL. Instead the hotel folks just sat the bare metal frame onto the glass of the bulb. Now what if someone else starts jiggling the shade around and ruptures the glass on the bulb? HAZMAT time! Thank you federal gubment! Bring back our incandescent bulbs!

3 out of 4 in the Divisional Round

And now there are only 4 teams remaining. I did pretty well having successfully chosen winners in 3 of the 4 games. My losing pick was the New Orleans Saints who lost 36 to 32 to the San Francisco 49ers in the very last minute of the game. The Saints were handicapped by an uncharacteristic 5 turnovers in the game. Were it not for this I figure the Saints would have won handily by a couple of touchdowns, but we can't just blame the Saints, we must credit the defense of the 49ers. They pressured Drew Brees all day long causing him to hurry his throws and make mistakes. The Saints ball carriers looked like wishbones with the 49ers defenders pulling at their extremities and the ball flying away. The Saints took the lead with a couple of minutes remaining, but the 49ers would not be denied as QB Alex Smith mustered enough offense to score the deciding touchdown in the final minute.

Tim Tebow's Denver Broncos fell in a humiliating defeat to the high powered Patriots, 45-10. I predicted a New England win but I thought it would have been a much more spirited game. I did not see it. I had it recorded but decided not to watch when I heard the score. Congrats Tom Brady. Better luck next year, Tim Tebow.

Good defense was more than the Houston Texans could stand as the Baltimore Ravens battled them to a 20-13 victory. It was hard fought and it wasn't pretty but the Ravens prevailed in the end and advance to the AFC Championship Game at New England.

It seemed as if the Green Bay Packers were at one point unstoppable. Not so as Eli Manning and the New York Giants marched into Green Bay and went away with a convincing 37-20 win. I predicted this victory. The Giants defense has stepped up recently and certainly gave Aaron Rogers' offense all he wanted forcing 4 Packer turnovers. Eli Manning did not have much trouble against the Packers mediocre defense. The Giants win was no shock to me. The Giants are not the same team they were a month or two ago. They are peaking at just the right time.

So now for next weeks' predictions:

AFC Championship Game, Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots

Tom Brady and company won't enjoy a walk in the park as they did against the Broncos. The Ravens defense is tough, tough, tough. Nevertheless, the Patriot offense is extremely dangerous. Brady will hit enough big plays to give the Patriots a 10 point victory.

NFC Championship Game, New York Giants at San Francisco 49er

The 49ers have a much better defense than the Packers. Eli Manning will be under a lot of pressure. On the flip side the Giants defense will give the 49ers much more trouble than did the Saints. I have a feeling it will be a war and a low to moderate scoring game with no team scoring more than 20 points. Alex Smith looks impressive but he doesn't quite have the experience and savvy of Eli Manning. I am going to predict a 3 point Giant victory and it may well happen in overtime.

So there you have it. Anyone want to argue?

The Sheer Nightgown

A husband walks into Victoria's Secret to purchase a sheer negligee for his wife. He is shown several possibilities that range from $250 to $500 in price -- the more sheer, the higher the price.

He opts for the sheerest item, pays the $500, and takes it home.

He presents it to his wife and asks her to go upstairs, put it on, and model it for him.

Upstairs, the wife thinks (she's no dummy), "I have an idea ... it's so sheer that it might as well be nothing. I won't put it on, I'll do the modeling naked, return it tomorrow, and keep the $500 refund for myself."

She appears naked on the balcony and strikes a pose.

The husband says, "Good Grief! You'd think for $500, they'd at least iron it!"

He never heard the shot.

Funeral is on Thursday at Noon.

The coffin will be closed.

I'm 2 and 2, and Now the Divisional Round

Well I'm 2 and 2 in my predictions for wildcard weekend. This proves one thing and one thing only. When you GUESS between 2 choices, you have a 50 percent chance of being right. At least I think I'm as good as the ex-jocks on ESPN.

I picked the Bengals over the Texans. The Bengals lost miserably. I also picked the Steelers over the Broncos. The Broncos won 29 to 23 on the first play in overtime. Way to go Tim Tebow. Tebow hit some mighty impressive looking long passes down the field during the game.

I was correct picking the Saints over the Lions. It was pretty close until the 4th quarter and then Drew Brees and company lowered the boom. It took Eli Manning and the Giants a little while to get in gear but they had no trouble shaming the Atlanta Falcons as I predicted.

So now on to the divisional round. Here are my picks:

New Orleans Saints at San Francisco 49ers. Well the Saints have the number 1 passing attack in the NFL. The 49ers are 16th against the pass. The 49ers are also 1st against the run but it won't matter. The Saints have looked really sharp and I give them the victory by a touchdown.

Denver Broncos at New England Patriots. This is kinda tough. The Patriots have the number 2 passing attack but their defense is problematic. They have been able to put up enough points to win without having to worry much about defense. The Broncos have the number 1 running attack. Their defense is also mediocre. The Broncos went to overtime today against a mediocre Steelers offense. Will they make it to overtime against a GOOD offense? I'm going to have to give it to New England by a touchdown, but if the Broncos can get their wide receivers covered one on one and Tebow can deliver some more astonishing passes, it might really be close.

Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens. OK, I'm convinced that the Texans are real after watching them dispatch the Bengals. Actually statistic wise the Ravens and Texans are fairly equal. It bothers me that the Texans lost 3 in a row at the end of the regular season. I'm going to give the win to the Ravens by 3 points. I think it will be a squeaker.

New York Giants at Green Bay Packers. Big time passing attacks and mediocre defense describes these two teams. The Giants defense has looked better to me lately though. On the downside for the Giants it seems Eli has a bit of trouble getting started and comes on strong later in the game. If Eli has a slow start and the Packers get a couple of touchdowns ahead quickly it's curtains for the Giants. I'm going to stick my neck way out and pick the Giants by a touchdown.......whew! OK, it's your turn!

Time for Personal Attacks and Character Assassination

Rick Santorum is a decent guy, a Christian, a conservative, a guy I would trust as president. He battled RINO Mitt Romney to a virtual TIE in the Iowa Caucus last night. I think there were 5 votes separating the two. Did you see how many of the news outlets GLEEFULLY declared Romney the WINNER? Yes, they want to pick our RINO candidate for us so badly they can just taste it.

I don't know if Santorum can endure but you can bet that the Alan Colmes types will be out in droves launching personal attacks and demonizing Santorum as best they can. Of course they will be aided by the Republican establishment and the pundits on Fox News. I hate to watch it, but you know it's coming.

Hang in there Rick. I'll vote for you if I get the chance.

The Dustbin of History is a Little Fuller Today

Michele Bachmann has retired from the presidential race. This was no surprise. She had poor poll numbers, no money left, and only captured 5 percent of the voters in the Iowa Caucus last night.

Too bad, but there have to be losers in any contest in spite of what the liberals might want you to believe. I think Bachmann is basically a good and decent woman with good conservative ideas. I think she would have made a good president, perhaps a great president. We may never know the answer to this. On the other hand, one day we might.

As Sarah Palin said, "....it is just not her time......", but who knows if her time will one day come?

Romney? Electable? Hoax?

I have heard it until I'm sick of it. We need to choose Mitt Romney because he's the "most electable". You hear it from the lame stream media. You hear it from the Republican establishment. You hear it from the talking heads on Fox News.

Flash back to 2008. We need to choose John McCain because he's the "most electable". He's the one that will appeal to those precious independent voters. You heard it from the lame stream media. You heard it from the Republican establishment. You heard it from the talking heads on Fox News. We even heard it from Colin Powell who later voted for Obama.

And we ended up with John McCain, a wishy-washy, global warming believing (a hoax), cap and trade supporting (a hoax), who publicly brow beat his supporters for criticizing Hussein Obama. McCain was the candidate who wouldn't fight against the man who wanted to "fundamentally change the United States" into a mediocre European socialist state. No, they might call us RACIST! I guess y'all remember how that worked out.

I have already heard this year the same warnings from the Republican establishment types. We had better play nice and not criticize Obama or those precious independents will go running away in droves.

It's a HOAX folks! A big, fat, smelly, fuming, green fly attracting HOAX! We're sitting back fat, dumb, and happy and letting them pick our losing RINO candidate once again! In the general election it will begin with Romneycare and Mitt and the United States will go down in a flaming wreck! Mark my words!

Oh by the way, John McCain just endorsed Mitt Romney.

The TRAGEDY That is Ron Paul

We are drowning in debt. The federal gubment is expanding in huge chunks, TRILLIONS of dollars at a time. There is only ONE candidate who by his campaign rhetoric seems serious about really cutting spending. By cutting I mean really cutting, not simply reducing the rate of growth. The champion cutter is none other than Ron Paul.

Did you know that Ron Paul has stated he would ELIMINATE the following:

With the exception of Defense I agree with all of this and there is no doubt that a lot of waste in defense could be eliminated as well. We hear none of this from any of the other candidates. Instead they choose to dance around the issue and chip away here and there at the overblown debt. The TRAGEDY is that Ron Paul refuses to identify the enemies of the United States (Islam), blames the United States for the 9-11 attacks, thinks it's OK for Iran to have a nuclear bomb, and would refuse to defend the nation against attacks foreign and domestic. His foreign policy is just CRAZY, otherwise he'd have my vote without question. How great would it be if Rick Santorum or Rick Perry adopted Paul's cutting strategy? If a Republican defeats Obama in 2012 (I certainly am not sure of this) I don't see any meaningful reduction of the debt in our future. Greece and Europe, here we come!

Kathy Griffin Strips on CNN! Who Cares?

Here's the first great "who gives a sh*t" story of 2012. Alleged comedienne, Kathy Griffin, stripped to her underwear on CNN, despite the objections of host, Anderson Cooper. Evidently, this was during the New Year celebrations on the seldom watched news network.

I've blogged about Griffin before. She's loud, obnoxious, ugly, and NOT FUNNY. I guess the only way she can get attention is by being loud and outrageous! Or maybe she was just drunk or stoned.

Fortunately, she was on CNN and maybe only a dozen or so people saw her.

This woman is definitely a waste of skin......ugh!

Alan Colmes is a Godless Heathen

Yes he is. Colmes is a liberal lunatic who believe it or not has his own radio show and is a semi-regular on Fox News.

Today he was on TV criticizing Rick Santorum, not over conservative issues, not because he's at the top of the polls in Iowa, no, none of the above.

Back in 1996, Santorum's newborn child died in the hospital. He brought the deceased baby home for a PRIVATE moment with his family. Santorum said, "It was so important ... for the family to recognize the life of that child and for the children to know they had a brother."

Colmes said, "Once they get a hold of the crazy things he's said and done like taking his two-hour old baby who died right after childbirth home and played with it for a couple of hours so his other children would know that the child was real......"

Of course to a godless liberal who believes in the wanton murder of the unborn I guess this comment is no surprise. I would not have made Santorum's choice either, but really, Alan, it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, and has nothing to do with anything! Why even bring it up? Just to torture and ridicule a Godly and decent man I guess!

Colmes has since apologized to Santorum and Santorum has accepted.

Thanks Alan, you've given me one more reason to vote for Rick Santorum.

A Caucus? A Primary? A Mess?

Sweet Wifey (she is so very sweet) has been lamenting the Iowa Caucus and the primary system in general. Indeed it seems that by the time the vote rolls around to us Tennessee folks, our candidate has already fallen by the wayside or has already been chosen for us by the political establishment and/or the news media. She has advocated a single big nationwide primary where everyone votes for their primary candidate at the same time. But what if this were the case? What of there were say 10 different primary contenders? The victor might come away with perhaps 15 percent of the vote. 85 percent of the people would be mad.

How would the candidates campaign for such a giant primary? Under the present system the candidate has to actually go to that particular state. They have to spend time and money there. They have to put boots on the ground. They have to meet and talk to many many people. In the process they get an awful lot of press coverage. With Iowa or New Hampshire, even us "outsiders" who choose to pay attention, are able to learn a lot about each individual person. With a giant nationwide primary I'm afraid the candidates would not go to all this trouble and we might all come away in a cloud of ignorance.

We must realize that nobody's primary vote decides much of anything. Instead the winner of the primary is ultimately decided by the party convention and the votes cast by the delegates. Can you imagine the bartering, bickering, bribery, and cajoling that must occur at those affairs? We might all be shocked and appalled……on the other hand, maybe not.

I thought it might be pretty cool to conduct the primaries on a "rotational basis". The states that go first in 2012 would go last in 2016 and so forth. Ho hum, can you imagine the screaming and fighting that would occur if one of the political parties tried to implement this? It would be a downright sideshow.

There is no doubt that we are all hamstrung by our two party system. Never in American history have more than two parties been dominant. When one party (the Federalists) has disintegrated, another (the Whigs) springs up to take its place, and the two parties continue on as before. We all have seen that third parties and independents never seem to go very far. So we all end up having to play by the party rules whether we like them or not.

In the end, let us all remember that the vote of the PEOPLE does not elect the president. Rather it is the vote of the STATES in the form of the electoral college that makes the decision. This of course comes under fire all the time from all directions. The Democrats still have not gotten over the election of 2000 when Bush lost the popular vote but gained enough electoral votes to prevail. If the situation had been reversed, I am sure Republicans would still be bitching. However, the 2000 result was completely constitutional and the founders intended it to be this way. The electoral college gives just a bit more clout to the voters of the small states over those of the big ones.

Have you noticed that each state no matter how big or small has exactly two votes in the senate? In the senate each STATE has equal power. Again this was the intent of the founders. They believed strongly in the rights and sovereignty of each state. I'm sure many of them are rolling over in their graves when they see how our all powerful and all intrusive central government had perverted the constitution they risked their very lives to create. Wildcard Sunday - GROUCH's Predictions

Well, the Titans were eliminated yesterday as Cincinnati managed to secure the 6th seed position in the AFC playoffs. Since I have no dog in the fight once again, I'll adopt a team as I did last year. This year it will be the Denver Broncos. I'm simply a Tim Tebow fan, but they looked miserable yesterday in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and they host the Steelers in the wild card round of the playoffs......ugh. Anyway, perhaps God will reward Tebow with a miracle. He'll need one. Here are my picks for next weekend:

AFC wild card round

Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans

I still haven't figured out how Houston won the division with 3rd string QB's and all. I think their luck runs out. I'm giving it to the Bengals by a touchdown.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos

The AFC north is probably the strongest division in football. The AFC west is probably the weakest. The Steelers have lots of playoff experience. The Steelers will rout the Broncos in Denver. Sorry Tim.

NFC wild card round

Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants

The Giants have looked shaky but so have the Falcons. Eli Manning is a magician. The Giants defense is going to have an awesome game and Manning is going to be on fire. I'm predicting a 2 touchdown win for the Giants. If the Giants look as good as they did last night against the Cowboys, they may be the surprise NFC team in the Super Bowl.

Detroit Lions at New Orleans Saints

I think the Lions will be tough but unless Drew Brees has a complete meltdown I'm predicting a Saints victory by 10.

Finally! Somebody said it! It is about time and well overdue.

This has been kicked around since way back in the Bush administration. The powers that be keep saying we will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. All the while, in spite of toothless sanctions, they keep moving slowly but surely toward their nuclear bomb.

This just gives me one more reason to vote for Santorum. He has the conservative credentials. Liberals hate him. GOOD! He's surging in the polls one day before the Iowa caucus. Will he maintain his momentum? Who knows, but I sure won't be pulling the switch for Romney, Gingrich, or Paul, now or ever.

Now, Rick, back to that bombing thing:

1. If it comes to that, bomb the hell out of them.

2. No rules of engagement.

3. Don't worry about collateral damage. They are Muslims. They all hate us and would kill us if they could.

4. It's all about oil, Rick. Let's drill for our own. Tell the Arabs and the Persians to eat sand.

There's No Place Like Home

Last night sweet Wifey and I rang in the new year as the MORBID STRANGERS performed until after midnight. It was not the best of times for me as I've had one of the worst colds and episodes of post viral bronchitis I can remember. I had to dope up on cough meds during the gig just so I could breathe. Singing was a chore. It was hot on stage and the smoke in the room did not help.

I slept restlessly on the couch last night so as not to disturb my sweet ones.

When I finally woke up, my symptoms had calmed down and I was breathing easy and felt restful. Sweet Wifey fixed me a nice breakfast and I kicked back on the couch for a little football and some sweet puppy love. All is quiet and all is relaxed and even the Titans won by a single point.

I guess this might sound pretty dull but nothing beats relaxing in my QUIET little home on the hill with my sweeties. I can't think of a better way to start the new year.

No Job? There May Be a Reason

I never have been a big fan of Bill O'Reilly. I think his primary mission in life is to listen to himself BLOVIATE! And yes, he's made tons of money at it. More power to him. And if he's just "looking out for the folks" I can't say I feel much better.

However, on the topic of jobs, or the lack of them, O'Reilly and I are on the same page. In a recent article, his summary of the job climate is RIGHT ON:

The most important thing for a worker to understand is that you have to make yourself indispensable. You have to make your employer money or his life easier. Preferably both. Also, you have to learn as much as you can about your chosen endeavor. Again, if you can fix things, you will earn good money. If you can sell things, you will prosper. If you're primarily interested in tattoos, you will suffer economically unless you're a member of Green Day.

In prosperous years, the marginal workers get by. In tough times, they get the shaft. Let's all hope 2012 finally brings relief on the economic front. But don't count on it. Make your own way and a happy new year will be far more likely to occur.

Ridiculous Lawsuits? Blame the Lawyers!

Didja know that someone can sue you for most anything? They might not like the way you look, the way you talk, or the way you walk. It doesn't matter, you can be sued. Now that doesn't mean you could be successfully sued, but still you would have to defend yourself. You'd have to hire a lawyer. If your time is valuable you might have to waste some of it talking to the lawyer, giving a deposition, or even going to court. Even if you win, it's gonna cost YOU!

I read an article that got my dander up just a bit, "Most Ridiculous Lawsuit of 2011 Announced".

Now there is an EASY fix for all this nonsense. There should be a nationwide conversion to a LOSER PAYS legal system. If you bring a nonsensical suit against your neighbor and you lose, YOU PAY! You pay for your neighbor's attorney, their legal fees, court costs, time lost, whatever!

Why does this not happen? Lawyers of course! This would mean fewer lawsuits, probably fewer lawyers and less pay for lawyers. Since most of the politicians are lawyers, well, hell......you get the idea.

If I were king, things would be a lot different.

Payroll Tax Cut Charade - by Crystal Wright

I don’t care what the Wall Street Journal said or other so called political geniuses from the GOP establishment, House Republicans blew it this week when they caved into Senate Democrats two month payroll tax holiday scam. Speaker Boehner should have called Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s bluff and forced the Senate to come back to Washington and work with the House to pass the payroll tax cut for a year. (SNIP)

Collectively, House Republicans should have hit the airwaves reminding Americans, Obama’s so called tax holiday robbed the Social Security Trust Fund of about $120 billion last year and stimulated nothing. (SNIP)

This so called tax cut for the middle-class is nothing more than Democrats and Obama playing Robin Hood--- robbing from the Social Security Trust Fund. Republicans need to remind Americans Obama and the Democrats payroll tax cut is one big fiasco along with Obama’s failed policies.

If this payroll tax holiday is continued for another eight years, the Social Security Trust Fund could be completely wiped out of funds. It’s interesting to note Democrats consistently oppose any ideas of privatizing Social Security, including Rep. Paul Ryan’s plan but are all too willing to threaten it’s solvency by robbing it of funds.

Mitt Romney Redefines Conservatism While Newt Apologizes

The more I hear from Mitt Romney, the more I can't stand him. Now he is trying to tell us Romneycare in Massachusetts including the individual mandate is based on conservative principles. Where, where in the Constitution is the gubment empowered to make me purchase anything? I can't find it.

And Newt is running around apologizing and trying to distance himself from Mitt. I guess Newt was for the individual mandate before he was against it! This whole thing is disgusting. Looks like Rick Santorum might be starting to make a move. There is still hope for true conservatism.

Cheetah is Dead

Cheetah, the famous chimp of the 1930's Tarzan movies has died at age 80, at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Palm Harbor, FL.

Gee whiz, I guess I didn't realize chimps lived so long.

The sanctuary volunteer, Ron Priest, said Cheetah was well behaved but when upset about something would throw feces. Cheetah had been observed throwing feces at pictures of Barack Hussein Obama. However, it was later discovered that Cheetah was simply angry with the president because he chose Michelle for a mate rather than the feisty chimp.

Back in August, the Kenyan American president, Barry Soetoro begged congress to raise the debt ceiling so we could pay our bills on time. Of course there were supposed to be cuts to go along with it......oh wait, I think those "cuts" were supposed to happen over the next 10 years.

Now little Barry is asking for another 1.2 trillion increase in the debt ceiling bringing the national debt to nearly 16.4 trillion. So lessee, we increase the debt 2.1 trillion in just a few months and the "cuts" happen over 10 years? Hmmmmmm.......cuts? I don't see no steenkin' cuts!

We are so screwed!

Newt's Pants are on Fire!

It was just a few short months ago, when Newt was sitting back in the pack, not criticizing anybody. I distinctly remember him saying that any of the candidates on the stage, including Ron Paul, would make a vastly better president than Hussein Obama.

Now Newt has taken the lead and lost the lead at least in Iowa to Ron Paul. Suddenly Newt has decided that Paul would be "worse than Obama". Oh my how things change in such a short time and how the rhetoric follows suit! But one thing never changes. Newt is a RINO and a liar! If he is elected president, who knows what we will get? At least with Obama, we know EXACTLY what we will get. He told us before the first election.

Frankly if the next president is Paul, Gingrich, or Romney, we'll still be in deep doo doo.

Christmas has finally come. Sweet Wifey (oh so sweet) did very well this year. Santa treated her to a new Seiko diamond watch which she needed badly.

But it gets better. She also has a brand new MacBook Pro. Her old Dell has served her well, but after all, it is a Windows (ugh) machine.

The GROUCH did not do badly either. I got some new stuff for my motorcycle including a fine set of chaps, several different shirts, but the big surprise was my new STEEL GUITAR.

This should be interesting since I know nothing about steel guitars. I will plan on being an expert by this time next year.

Even sweet Penny had a good Christmas.

We are all very grateful and thankful for the nice things we have at Christmas time, but mostly we are thankful for Jesus and thankful for each other. Happy New Year one and all!

When I was just a wee lad I had an old vinyl LP with several Christmas songs. One of them was "The Secret of Christmas" performed by the late, great Bing Crosby. I have since heard many other artists perform this song but none ever did it as much justice as Crosby.

One of my favorite lines of all times is:

So may I suggest, the secret of Christmas, is not the things you do at Christmas time, but the Christmas things you do all year through.

Whatever Happened to Free Speech?

Two New York high school students were recently suspended for organizing several "kneel-downs" in honor of controversial Denver Broncos QB, Tim Tebow.

The kids stated that their actions were not of a religious nature but rather just a way of honoring the accomplishments of the famous quarterback.

Tim Tebow said of the incident, "You have to respect the position of authority and people that God's put as authority over you, so that's part of it, and just finding the right place and the right time to do things is part of it, too." Hmmmmm, what a classy answer. Too bad the people with authority are godless heathens a lot of the time.

I have to say that regardless of the motivation of the students, what about their right of free speech and expression, especially when students in some places run around wearing their britches down below their butts and spend time spraying graffiti on the schoolhouse walls?

And once again, what would have happened if they had started praying to Allah? Wanna bet nothing would have been said? Hmmmmmm?

Congress and the President - Just Killing Time

Watching the congress bicker over the payroll tax extension has been nauseating to say the least. Both the Dimocrats and the Republicans want to extend the payroll tax cut. The argument is about how long the extension should be. The Dims want to extend it until the end of February which for all practical purposes will be impossible to implement while the GOP wants to extend it for a whole year.

Obama continues his lies to the public stating that the "tax cut" will create jobs. Of course it won't amount to a hill of beans as far as job creation is concerned. Just another lie. He's just killing time.

What nobody seems to talk about is the long term implication of the payroll tax cut. The payroll tax is the SOLE FUNDING SOURCE OF SOCIAL SECURITY. Social Security is already in trouble and paying out more than it takes in. The Looney Facebook Liberals are always wringing their hands and screeching about how the evil Republicans are trying to steal THEIR (notice the entitlement mentality) Social Security. At the same time they CHEER the efforts of Hussein Obama and the Senate Dimocrats to extend the payroll tax cut saying it is a good thing for all those hard working middle class Americans.

Sigh, it's just a political ploy. Both parties have latched onto this notion of a tax cut simply to make political hay. If they are really interested in tax cuts, what say the make the Bush tax cuts permanent? Oh the HORROR! Or what say they permanently abolish the capital gains tax or the death tax? Oh the HORROR! No, they're not really interested in tax cuts. They are just killing time and kicking the can down the road.

Killing time........killing time.........killing time........and the generally uninformed public will just lap it all up like a pig eating slop when it's all just a big lie.

No … don’t remember which Post Office. Saw the story on the tube this morning. A Post Office manager told Christmas carolers to get out … leave … and don’t come back unless they’re buying stamps or mailing something.

I’m just bringing this up to remind you that there is a war on Christmas in this country – and to suggest to you that this war exists because in this era of big government you need to remember that it’s government, not Santa Claus, that brings you what you ask for; and that it’s government, not God, that you should be worshipping.

Patrick addressed the class: "Well Ms. Jones, me and my twelve brothers and sisters go to midnight mass and we sing hymns; then we come home very late and we put mince pies by the back door and hang up our stockings. Then all excited, we go to bed and wait for Father Christmas to come with all our toys.

"Very nice Patrick," she said. "Now Angelo Ianucci , what do you do at Christmas?"

Well, Ms. Jones, me and my sister also go to church with Mom and Dad and we sing Ave Maria , dance the Tarantella and when we get home we put almond cookies and Amaretto by the chimney and we hang up our stockings. We hardly sleep, waiting for Santa Claus to bring our presents.

Realizing there was a Jewish boy in the class and not wanting to leave him out of the discussion, she asked, "Now, Isaac Cohen, what do you do at Christmas?"

Isaac said, "Well, it's the same thing every year...Dad comes home from the office. We all pile into the Rolls Royce; then we drive to Dad's toy factory. When we get inside, we look at all the empty shelves...And begin to sing: “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”..........Then we all go to the Bahamas ..."

The Grouch Assesses Republican Presidential Candidates - December Edition

Well, according to the polls, the candidates who I like the least, Romney, Gingrich, and Paul, are in the lead, while the candidates I like the most, Bachmann, Perry, and Santorum, are bringing up the rear. My choice, Herman Cain, is gone, destroyed by lies and innuendos.......hmmmm I'm still waiting to hear some FACTS that he did anything wrong. I'll probably be waiting a long time.........ah yes the destruction of a black conservative......alas I digress. Go HERE to read my November assessment if you've not been paying attention.

I'm not sure what to make of any of these polls. Gingrich now seems to be slipping a bit. I would bet it's because people are finally starting to pay attention and see him for the RINO he really is. Romney is also slipping. I almost had to laugh out loud when Romney tried to accuse Gingrich of being a moderate.

I hear a little story every now and then that seems to suggest Bachmann and Perry are starting to move up a bit. My hope is that either one of them will take off and take center seat. I'd be OK with Santorum too but it just seems that guy can't get traction no matter what.

So who knows where this will end? By my next assessment, the Iowa caucuses will be history. Who will be left and who will be gone? I stand by my guns. If the Republican candidate is not Bachmann, Perry, or Santorum, I will sit out the general election. It's time for conservatives to stand up and take charge.

No More Texting/Cellphoning While Driving? GOOD!

Y'all know I'm very libertarian when it comes to gubment laws, rules, and regulations but the numbers don't lie and it's pretty obvious to me that distracted driving causes traffic accidents. The distraction? Texting and talking on the cellphone of course. And I am all for laws which would require the damned things be turned off and the device put in the trunk. Oh the HORROR! How will we ever survive?

Well might I remind you that we got along just fine before the age of cellphones and mobile devices and I am sure we would do just fine once again. If you must make a call or send a text, then PULL OFF THE DAMNED ROAD! GEEZ!

Well the federal gubment agency the NTSB wants to ban your use of electronic devices while driving. Here is where the gubment and I part company. This should be an issue where the STATES pass these laws, not the FEDERAL GUBMENT. The feds have no business whatsoever sticking their noses in this one. Like I said I am very libertarian about most issues of gubment regulation, but this behavior is a direct threat to other drivers in much the same manner as driving drunk. It should be banned.

It is funny but while I was composing this post, there was a woman on Facebook texting and telling the world that she just called 911 to report an old lady driving 80 mph on the highway. Of course it never dawned on her that her texting while driving was equally as dangerous. Perhaps she should have reported herself to the 911 operator......SIGH. Yeah, it was REAL IMPORTANT that everyone on Facebook be alerted to the 80 mph granny.
